New Wizard/Druid Portals Duration

Doola

First of all, just want to mention the new portals look awesome and the effect was implemented well. I like the idea that you don't have to join someone's group to utilize these portals and it streamlines the process for folks asking for ports in OOC.

I've noticed that the duration of the portal is 30 seconds though and was wondering how people felt about bumping up the duration to a minute? The reason being if you have a wizard or druid character you could have enough time to throw down a portal somewhere and logout to a different character to then take the portal. The logout timer is 30 seconds so with the current duration (which may have been intentional) its not possible to really do this but I think it would be a nice perk of having leveled on of these port classes.

For sure (1+ min) and it should give you a confirmation prompt with location. Someone had a couple portals out at bank and they look insane and I clicked one and ended up in caves of irem but I had gate as a low level otherwise I would have been screwed.

We don't need training wheels on everything, do we? Look the portal and see where it goes ... if it don't look familiar and you don't trust the caster -- don't go. There's no confirmation prompt when a druid or wizard gates you in group ... why should this be different?

Feels cheesy to me. If that's implemented, next people will want a way to buff their own toons too.

i dont think druid currently has this effect (not on 24 portals anyway)? just wiz?

Fell I agree, being able to use your own portals on your alt seems against much of the core design and the point of having a no-box server. Players are supposed to get around inconveniences by utilizing other players, not be able to do everything on their own by just leveling up multiple characters.

Fell

Fidric Druids have it; it's a separate spell from the group port.

Name lol i did this on my 10 bard ... was an adventure to get home.

Fidric

Fell ah. level 52. gotcha

Name

Fell You don't prompt group gates because it requires a group (and if someone was maliciously inviting and gating noobs they would get banned). Portals you can just be sitting at a bank campfire, see something that looks cool and (ungrouped, which is fine/good) click it. However there will be casuals playing, they will do exactly that, and if they end up somewhere dangerous and lose all their shit that's not a good thing. Adding a quick confirmation is harmless.

You don't prompt group gates because it requires positive action on the part of the person being gated to join the group. Just as it required positive action on the part of a person to step through a gate. Nor do any of these portals lead to the 666th ring of Hell ... no one's going to permanently lose a corpse at the EW druid ring or even the VoZ pyramid.

Seriously, we don't training wheel confirmation dialogs on every potentially dangerous action a player takes. Some more dialog confirmations we don't need:
"Do you really want to fire an arrow at this red con giant 20 levels above you?"
"This cliff is 500 feet high. Please confirm you really wish to run off it."
"You are out of air and currently drowning. Please confirm you really wished to swim all the way down here."

Name So... you clicked a random portal, ended up in a bad place (for your level) and want the devs from stopping you from clicking random portals in the future? Tell me... have you ever gotten into a windowless van with strangers before?

Raybane

This is also the type of event that makes for great stories later and that is what this game should be all about!

Name

Waffle_Goblin It was a level 6 or something beta character with gate, with beta ending. I wouldn't have cared if I lost everything. If you read the follow-up message, you would have known I was advocating for casuals, not myself. Noobs will see something new that looks cool and click it. It will happen. A quick prompt is harmless.

All of you Faze clan gaming legends have surely never misclicked, but the average gamer can and in this case not even "misclick" but try and do something normal (move the camera, etc) at the wrong time and be unduly punished for it.

Unless your suggestion is that everyone "learns" to look around by keyboard turning before touching their mouse so they don't misclick a portal, it needs a confirmation.
