Mesh You are being sarcastic but, yes, when I'm picking a DPS class, I don't care one whit how competitive their DPS is, I first look at everything else they can do besides DPS. DPS is just my role - I can assume the class will do that (and if not of course that needs to be fixed ASAP) so I don't find it worthy of worrying about.
DPS is just numbers. If the highest DPS-dealing class in the game achieved that purely through auto-attack and could do nothing else whatsoever, would you still pick them? Boring!
Once I pick a class based on what other things it can do, which is what separates one DPS class from another after all, I expect the DPS of that class to be inversely proportional to what other value I bring. So, yeah, as @Fell said, if another class does a lot less bonus stuff than I do, I expect them to be able to do more damage, and vice versa.
If Wizard ends up having less useful stuff than all other DPS, then by golly they should have the best DPS output. But if Wizard brings a bunch of other things to the table and some other class brings practically nothing but damage, then anyone arguing that the Wizard should still out-damage them has no interest in class balance and only in class favoritism.

That said, I agree Wizards need help, especially at 1-20 where they also are lacking in most of their utility, but the balance pass hasn't happened yet, so if DPS is all you care about I sincerely hope that's resolved to your satisfaction in the balance pass. What I'm concerned about is when the other issues with Wizard besides just some easily-tweaked damage/mana numbers are going to be addressed.
