Wizard race trait combo

Zemus

Hello fellow pointy hat enjoyers. I'm really excited for early access and Wizard state aside i would love to hear your reasoning for your race trait combo given all the new info we got.

Personally i think deep gnome with laminal step is the way to go for me, I just love to be able to have a "oh shit button" if needed.

Cadveun

I like deep gnome with laminal step. I wish they would add +2 intelligence to it. There are numerous options for +2 wisdom throughout the racials but only one option of surface gnome with +2 Intelligence. It’s kind of disheartening they didn’t synergize deep gnome with wizard alittle more or any other race.

Ooligad

Deep gnome is very temping with Laminal step but I gotta go AV wiz for the flavor and the exclusivity that is Al'Vorith.

Taron

Wizards have a fair number (compared to some) ways to get out of dodge in an emergency already though - Blink, Root+Knockback, Evac. I was wondering about the viability of that other Deep Gnome one, the Sleep one. Yes it's +2 Wisdom which is useless to Wizards, but in a group situation could taking a quick nap between pulls sometimes give enough mana regen to help with sustain?

Sadly no other race seems to have anything particularly useful for Wizards that I see, how about you guys? Anything else pop out? I mean there's a few generically good options that would be decent choice regardless of class, but is there any others that seems to have specific Wizard synergy (of the races that can be Wizard at all)?

Raybane

Taron That ability doesn't look very good actually. Consider that if you got 100 meditate then all you get is 6 mana. Sure, it's something, but it's not exactly a noticeable amount.

Kurau

Would be sweet if the Dream trait stacks with Arcane Invocation

Cadveun

Taron Surface Gnome unfortunately stands out as the main contender choice for wizard. You will lose out on infravision if you choose the one with wizard synergy.
Slippery
15% resist root
Activate to break roots
Resourceful
Activatable +20 Resistance to Magic, Electric, Corruption
Innovative
5% increased skill gain speed in:Tinkering, Engineering, Intelligence-based spell casting skills, Language skills

Gnome of the Underworld
Ability: Hide, +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -1 Strength, -1 Wisdom, +5 Resist Cold
Ability: Improvised Light
Create an improvised torch from any single material that is: Wooden, Cloth

Raybane

Cadveun It looks like Infravision is made to be more of an optional choice in only making it easier to spot enemies and normal vision will be about where old Infravision used to be.

Taron

Surface Gnome doesn't seem noticeably better to me - only thing I'm seeing is a couple points of Int that is hardly noteworthy when the cap is 250. Who cares about Slippery when we have Blink, or resistances, or Hide when we have Invis, or making torches when we can summon a light source that doesn't take up your hands? Even the +5% skill increase for spell skills is inferior to Human's +5% to ALL skills, plus doesn't do a thing for you once you cap those each level.

Lamen

Taron I am almost set on the Sleeper trait (sorry, deep gnome wizards only fools), but I think its usefulness will depend on if the +30% meditation skill will allow the bonus to go over the skill cap at max level. If it doesn’t, then I’ll go liminal step for sure

Cadveun

Lamen If it does stack, how much extra mana do you think you will get over the 12 second period? You gain mana once ever 6 seconds, so you would gain the improved mana twice every 10 minutes. I was kind of leaning towards this as well, until I just typed this out. It sounds kind of bad.

Raybane

Cadveun Assuming it's rounded up so would you gain a whopping 16 mana at level 50. I think this trait is wildly under tuned and most likely the bonus healing will matter more, when you can get it to work.

Cadveun

Interested for sure if this will change; a handful of extra mana is useless when your spells cost 275 mana per cast

Lamen

Cadveun yeah I thought the same, but I would imagine tuning would come into play once implemented. Guess we’ll see
