Raskyl I dont dislike them, theyre just very basic. Every single elemental creature/spirit in the game being a wobbly dorito with big old fists doesnt make much sense to me. They come from another realm, presumably, that is likely very basic and fundamental. Then are attached in service to a complex being which is a solely made of everything them and their brethren are individually, but all in one. So a new servant (aka low level) makes sense as a basic blob but a servant whose existed over a long time, growing within the complexity of the place our PCs inhabit (aka higher level) would certainly take on forms more like things that developed here originally imo. Like Mesh's Efreeti.
Of course, most of that reasoning is lore based from lore that I mostly assumed based on broad fantasy tropes. Have you reasoned to your position at all, past "I want"? Not saying that that position is less valid, this is just an interesting topic.
What about the pet, and every other elemental we get to see, remaining as that exact shape keeps you more immersed or invested in the world than youd feel if they evolved like a pokemon?
