Before I say anything I'll say I like Ranger and can't wait to play them in October in any shape they get to be. I am currently enjoying tanking and rooting an babysitting mobs while being able to do range combat.
Now... I found that discussion of stances kind of entertaining. At first I had a 'no' reaction since I've spent a decade stance dancing and felt that rather 'fighter/warrior' iconic. But that's also boring. I mean , why not have stances on a Ranger?
The stance should grant a benefit to the role the Ranger is performing.
IE, Tree Stance--plant your feet, rooting yourself in place and you gain some tanking bonuses and perhaps some other niche thing.
Full Predator -- A stance that increases melee capabilities significantly. It could create threat so Rangers would have to treat it like a time bomb and turn it off, otherwise they would be tanking. I could also see this stance able to rescue someone by pulling threat with it then switching to tree stance.
Eagle eyes -- A stance that gives you ranged damage bonuses if you havn't moved for X seconds. Moving of course would break the effect.
I don't think, if stances are what we are getting, should take from another class in any way though. So increasing our ranged damage shouldn't compete with archers, but I'm not personally against being super close under certain circumstances such as mobility or positioning being tied to damage bonuses. I also don't think giving ranger a stance that puts them super close to rogue damage at the cost of ...gulp pulling threat and dying for it would matter. And turning the stance on and off should equate to a damage increase that feels fun. May feel like a range is a mighty tame animal until that stance comes out.
Anywho, had time to type. that's nice. Have a nice day everyone.
