Reading the new class definition, it really sounds like ranger will be a lower tier DPS but with a lot of support.
Especially this line:
Outside of combat, however, is where the Ranger's full value emerges.
I think they will transform ranger into the best support for out of combat recovery via buffs to the campfire:
- Lower food/water consumption rate
- Raised health recovery
- Lower the duration of poisons/diseases
- Higher experience bonus
- Forage should also provide them with wood (if it does not already)
Then for combat devs hopefully make both melee and ranged viable by themselves (ranger then gains flexibility for those fights that penalize one or the other) but will likely make weaving between both be the optimal route.
I would love to see ranger be the king of the wilderness. In fact, to embrace that theme, it would be nice to make them be the only class that don't need to buy skills from a trainer. They just learn them as they level-up out there in the wild. Coming back to the civilization and pay some guy that does not even out there just seems weird. An alternate idea would be to put a ton of "trainers" spread out in the world...
