For me it's the terrible 1-15 experience in terms of having anything distinctive - just root and nuke, like many other classes have that also get a bunch of other stuff.
Like, they used to get Invis at level 1. Now they get it at level 16 - later than the Tank class Inquisitor gets invis! What the heck?
Also just personally not a fan of the Volley->Reclaim thing, yet right during the deep dive discussion Jahaar said you could just stick to the ol' meditate-and-nuke style of play and still be just about as effective (you'd have more mana available for quick burn downs with the extra med time but less sustained DPS by sitting instead of volley-ing), but I'm hearing that's not really the case in practice?
The good news is, it would take very little effort to fix (my) issues with Wizard. No major coding changes, just:
- Move mana regen self-buff back to level 1
- Move Invis to <= 8 so it is before Inquisitors at minimum
- Move mage light to 1 for some early class identity
- Move either TK or an eletric nuke to a lower level so have some way to interrupt casters before level 20
- Make the glyphs all available pretty much as soon as any spell that can be activated by that glyph is available. Even if most glyph combinations don't do anything yet, there's no reason to hold off on the glyphs themselves and it would help to get used to the system earlier (fortunately glyph casting is optional so this isn't the end of the world for me).
- Balance stuff (namely making sure med-and-nuke is a viable alternative to volley-and-reclaim for those that want a more strategic style over mashing buttons constantly).
Do that and I'd go back to having Wizard as my main for EA. I never solo so I could care less about quad kiting etc, and big numbers don't excite me so I don't care about being the best damage - just good enough that groups want me to fill the DPS role, while having interesting/fun utility stuff like blink, teleports, invis, etc (but NO PET because I hate them, and not a buff bot or charm user like Enchanter). I just don't want to be stuck with nothing but root and nuke for the first month of play (I'm a slow goer), and assume the damage complaints will be ironed out in balance pass.
