Necro Stat Creation Recommendation

Relatively straightforward question. In terms of stats to prioritize upon creation, should I be looking to max Int first and then put the remainder into stamina (life drain) or charisma? I’m curious to see how that all pans out into the later aspect of the leveling and grouping experience, so I was hoping someone could share their wisdom in the subject.

Stamina isn't worth investing any points into. Your options are INT or CHA.

INT Increases your spell damage and mana pool.
CHA Helps to reduce fear and charm breaks.

Sadly, charming is the optimal route by a wide margin. Stack as much CHA as possible with whatever's left in INT.

Assuming you have no twink gear, you'll feel a little anemic 1-12 before you get charm but the extra CHA will make a noticeable difference from that point on.

All subject to change post-rework. I'm really hoping they do away with CHA as a Necro stat. It's awful.

Keep in mind that Necros didn't get their Deep Dive yet.
Things can change, spell lines can get completely removed, resources altered.
I'm not saying it's going to happen, but let's say they removed charm from the class and focused on dots damage.
Those Cha points would've been wasted.

At this point in time it works like this, but be aware that there's always a chance you'll have to re-roll in a few weeks when (hopefully) Necros get their Deep Dive.
Honestly, with the EA wipe around the corner it's not that important to min/max. Just focus on familiarizing yourself with the game and the environment (imho).

What Gathbard said. I used the first 3 months in game to grind hard and nail down some good leveling routes, gear locations, accessible camps, money farms, etc. these last weeks I'm all about just trying a few off the wall classes to see what they're like. Necro seems pretty cool, but it's all about the rework, so don't invest too much time and thought into this or that stat.

I dont have much CHA on my necro, but Im also not usually farming undead, and so charming them wouldnt be an option. Charming for leveling still feels much more in the Enchanter wheelhouse. More int, and more mana, and more damage has been my go to

Mesh This is interesting to me. In old school EQ I remember negative Charisma helped with undead charms and fears. Is this no longer the case? While +Charisma was for Enchanters.

If you're dead set on playing a Necro right now, go into it with the mindset that everything will change and what is optimal today, won't likely be the same after the rework.

I mained a Necro in EQ and have wanted to really jump into playing one here but I'm holding off until they get their Deep Dive.

I hate that charm is the route to go. I just don't like they play style so I'm hoping that changes.

I'm guessing they wanted to get rid of negative CHA because they didn't want a bunch of items throughout the game that would only be useful for Necro. Instead of substituting it with more useful stats like INT or STA, they decided to go with positive CHA which I think is a really poor fit for Necro.

However, there's still hope! The new Enchanter class description is a good sign.

Also, healer spells were all consolidated under a single stat (WIS) for both healing and DPS and the devs said similar consolidation should happen with INT when they rework the casters. I'm hoping this means all of Necro's spells including their health transfers, taps (healing) and pet heals will be INT-based after the rework.

Id highly recommend going heavy/fully into INT upon creation and then the remaining points into STA.

INT currently has the best damage and mana pool scaling elements which will serve you throughout the progression from 1-60 and beyond.

STA at the higher end will provide you more of a base health (5 per STA) in order to continue to manipulate your HP/Mana pools for efficiency.

CHA has merit as well. I personally don't want to rely to heavily on undead-only charming as the game expands and the mob fighting selection increases/remains varied.

I always thought charming undead with charisma was kind of stupid. It makes sense for a bard or enchanter if they are charming humanoid creatures, but IMO charming undead should just remain INT. I know the idea of course that charisma = being charming and charming people, but they are undead 🤔 I played EQ as a Necro for over 20 years and they eventually nerfed the crap out of ALL charming so I would not get too comfortable. It could work out great, but 🤷

what about diety choices? what happens if we go agnostic? seems wrong but I havent seen any diety specific gear and my thoughts were that if they do get added wouldnt Devs give us a chance to rework our diety choice?

CalBearGuy This depends on what you want to Be as a necro: straight dps, mixing it up, or all of the above.

Never put anything into charisma, stat wise.

Stamina is a good stat to put points into, as we're short on Health overall and you won't reach the Hard Cap, let alone the Soft Cap, of Stamina. It's never a bad idea...but again, it goes back to what you want to do with the class and your role at lvl 60.

Side Note: Negative Charisma was NEVER a part of the formula for Old EQ, just rumors and assumptions.

MnM attempted to follow that thread, yet quickly realized it was fruitless and more trouble than it was worth.

Deity choices are yet TBD..but there is one zone where it bears fruit, currently.

I'm reading about INT, CHA and maybe Stamina.
But at characters' creation a necro gets +4 Dex, somewhat indicating that this is a main stat - but why it isn't be discussed as one?

Unchainedfury Thanks Unchainedfury, is that one zone where diety matters just a pre kill faction impact or is there a zone where a quest or gear drops would be impacted by Diety choice?

Dex is fantastic for your Aspect of Vampirism proc rate (and Hit/miss ratio), although it hasn't been fine tuned as of yet for our procs. There appears to be hard # caps, with larger gaps between those windows, rather than +10 dex giving a + X.X % bonus, for example.

The short answer is many necros aren't aware of it or choose to ignore this type of playstyle, believing it to be "worthless". The reality is it is far from that in different playstyles, and quite enjoyable.

I've tested Aspect of Vampirism and the Surgeon's Razor over a 5 and a 1/2 hour period, extensively, with varying levels of Dex:

Low - 22 ish
Mid - 64 ish
High* - 132

*max i was able to achieve at the time

I sent all the data to the devs and I'm sure I'll do more rounds of testing in EA for when they have time to fine tune it further.
