Mesh I dont understand this "psuedo d-d" argument. Dots take time to setup and deal their damage. Thats the long and short of it. Yes once its on someone the damage is gonna go through until it expires or dies (or is dispelled rarely). But the fundamental truth is that dots should deal more damage per mana cost than a DD. Just because it ticks a bit faster doesnt mean they act the same way or have the same value all of a sudden. My dot that deals 100 damage over 1 minute vs your spell that deals 30 damage in one 3 second spell cast, in a group setting yours is more valuable due to ttk. Even with a 0.5‑second tick rate, your damage is still more valuable for killing a single mob because it dies faster, letting you immediately cast more direct damage. Reapplying a DoT, on the other hand, doesn’t give any extra benefit for the additional mana spent.
