I was thinking about the playstyle of the new restorative smite and consecrate interplay. One way to make it better and more fun to manage would be to allow some % of paladin overhealing from aoe heals (resto smite/MotCrusader) to generate overhealth (or shields) up to 5-10% of max hp for party members. Also could give Pallys an ability or cooldown to eat all the party's overhealth to empower themselves, either to heal/shield themselves, get an instant-cast free Holy Light, a dmg/threat boost, reset Consecrate CD, or call down divine judgment.
This would allow paladins to decide between party support, or max dmg/threat: to keep healing their party with restorative smite in preparation for a spike of difficulty, or to just focus on more damage if the overhealth/healing isn't needed. It would add a lot more to think about while playing in a party, and would allow some more skill expression.
If that is too OP, you could only allow the overhealth generation during when the pala is inside his Consecrate (using empowered restorative smite).
Potential synergy problems: Mark of the crusader could be busted for melee with overhealth, as well shamans consume would need to bypass the overhealth.
