Devs: Learn the math of charm damage

If charm is gonna keep low dmg, maybe we could use charm with an animation out and give the charm taunt so it can hold some amount of aggro, or some other cool abilities, until they figure out what to do with the spell. At least that would give ench an interesting case to use it in a grp on pulls of 2+ right away since we wouldn't be sacrificing the use of animation. In solo/duo we could use the animation or the charm to tank depending what we want to be taking dmg if both have taunt. It could be quite powerful still without being able to do 2x the dmg of dedicated dps players.

kloqqa Charmed pet out-tank any tank so if you give them taunt might as well not bring a tank to your group. I think charmed pet should be DPS or Utility, DPS to off-set chanter lack of DPS and utility it's an added bonus. Like charm a caster that have a unique buff, or a rogue that can backstab...etc.

Raven I think even with taunt, the current charm pets wont hold aggro off dpsers, they will just rip it back instantly. Not sure if it could hold aggro off the animation, since they both just got dmg nerfed. Charmed pets would only really be tanking mobs that would otherwise need to be CC'd, or just doing a small amt of assist dmg.

Raven Currently Charmed mobs generate hardly any aggro to the point they act like a weak dot as a stronger dot will pull aggro.

Raybane where did you hear that the charm is doing 75% instead of 125%? or just from your tests? i have not seen devs say anything at all about it. did i miss it?

Figures posted by another enchanter here. I confirmed myself that charm pet was doing substantially less than summon pet -- but that was before the stealth summon-pet nerf. I'm sure the figures would have been different with a yellow charm pet. However, enchanters are limited to level 52 mobs, and the duty cycle on a yellow pet anyway is substantially below 90%. Even pre-nerf, grouped enchanters preferred blues.

Fell I can also confirm that Druid charmed pets does incredible low damage, less then their dots making the pet unable to hold aggro against dots, even considering the proximity vs range. That is also including the damage shield with the damage shield possibly doing most of the damage.

DS damage doesn't generate aggro AFAIK, just as in EQ.

Fell Still, the damage is extremely low. I think it's clear that someone made some error in that patch as the damage doesn't match what they said they wanted. This does mean it should get better when fixed. From the Druid side I think the Charmed pet at least holding aggro from DoT's is kinda the minimum performance expected. It's in fact fine that you can pull aggro wit DD's as that gives you some control. But the charmed mob being totally ignored all the time is an issue as that makes killing with Charm worse then just using DoTs.

Right; my testing showed it at about 75% of the summon pet (a lower-level chanter would have probably seen them a bit closer, with a charm pet closer in level). But as the calculation in the first post shows, even at the dev's stated 125% base, that still results in a net loss. Who's going to use charm if it reduces total damage?
