Soooo. This rework is a weird one. I'm really liking it so far - which isn't something I expected to say. Why? I've never played a cleric, nor had the desire to do so - typically I roll pure martial classes. So if a guy who loves his martial classes loves playing this version of a cleric - not sure if that's a good thing 😃

Definitely having fun with it, definitely do not have the class experience to comment on viability.

but I mean... it's FUN!

Happy to have not put all my time into getting this plate armor on, only to go sit while others fight. Feels like a cleric should, in the mix up front, getting dirty, protecting others with various abilities and restoring hp.

[unknown] It's definitely a balance between that active front line Cleric feel and the Dad Camp class that Cleric's always been.

Fyi for clerics and Paladins, xilith has confirmed Dex does not scale the random god procs

These are not technically procs, they are random acts of a God, and do not scale off dexterity for either class

Procs and melee crits always scale with Dex, so I'm sure that's why he would have thought so. But these are intended to be surprising and uncontrollable, and not something you focus on in your "build"

[unknown] That's quite disappointing. Uninteractable randomness is certainly an option for class design--but it's not a terribly interesting one. And it has major balance drawbacks besides--namely that when you have such a huge effect gated by high variance, you have to design acknowledging its potential presence or absence in any encounter while at the same time players can never consider it when trying to optimize play without essentially trying to optimize a coin flip.

I really, really like the effects. It's just a shame to find out there's no gameplay attached to them.

I've really enjoyed the aspect of a "Nat 20" going off on abilities for both the Cleric and Paladin. It brings that TTRPG "dice gods" to the table and a big, fun moment for a player to enjoy. Very little can be done to force a big ol' Nat 20 crit for a reason.

2 comments I hope are considered-
I see that rebuke and undead nuke remained separate. Yet, in Magician's Deep dive- it says
"Repel the Elements through Devastate the Elements - This got merged into the Strike and Blast spell lines, rather than having a separate spell. You still do more damage to summoned creatures, it just happens as a bonus on your normal damage spells."

Would be nice to have our undead nuke folded into our standard nukes. (I thought it was at some point?)

Second- Should seriously consider giving clerics another buff (1 hour buff again, pls?) I was thinkng Shms buff everything- Druids buff ac and str- the str being a legacy thing from EQ, etc. Clrs could buff hp AND DEX. Give us another buff that melees enjoy. (does dex still help spellcasters land things?)

Cleric

Clerics have two new spells at level 4, Blessing of Smiting and Hymn of Smiting. These buffs allow the cleric to sanctify the weapons of their group, causing them to occasionally channel holy power into their strikes.

Blessing of Smiting blesses a single ally for 35 minutes. While it's active, their melee and ranged attacks have a chance to strike with Sanctified Weapon, dealing Holy damage to their target. Hymn of Smiting grants the same blessing to your whole group with one cast.

Sanctified Weapon grows stronger as the blessed ally gains levels. The two blessings don't stack with each other, so use whichever fits the moment.

Blind Spells

Spells with a Blind effect have temporarily gained a 60 second cooldown before re-use.

We'll be reworking Blind spells soon after Early Access starts, and expect to remove the cooldown after we update the spell's effects.

Interesting that necros got undead bonus dmg folded into their spells. Hope we will too at some point.
