Xilith I don't know who reworked the wizard, but it would be nice if they popped into the wizard forums once in a while and gave the kind of responses I've seen you do for other classes. It's really disheartening to comb through some of the class forums, and it's just like either a ghost town, or there's no dev presence whatsoever.
You talked about returning DPS classes to fall within a comparable range; it would be nice if we knew what the overall consensus was from the devs on who should fall into which tier. We have no tools to really parse this out, but people are finding ways around that through grit or engineering. It would be nice to have definitive wording on where DPS classes should stand. I understand the part where you mentioned limited resource-based burst or excelling under very particular circumstances, but which classes do you categorize in that area? Technically, abilities with just cooldown timers are a limited resource too; time is a resource.
There are a lot of niche scenarios, especially with PvP, but we were told this game wasn't trying to be balanced around PvP. Is that still the case? Are the devs actually running any kind of parsing tools to really look at the DPS classes over a 30-60 min period, as one would normally do sitting at a camp of mobs? What about free DPS, like DS from druids or ele, or things like that? You look at the druids' DS + DoTs + nukes, and I bet they are pretty high up on the DPS list over a standard 60-minute camp session.
I appreciate the communication on the forums like this, its nice to see it, I just wish it was more equitable to all class forums.
And since this is about monks, I will say that since they have to spend a large portion of the grind session either pulling mobs, running off and grabbing another before the first one dies, or having to stay lying on the ground while the group grabs the split mob, it would be cool to see them get burst DPS tied to CD abilities like martial punches and kicks. Instead of relying on their constant punches and auto attacks to produce the majority of their damage. That way they can drop huge burst hits and contribute to the DPS in a meaningful way without having to stay glued to the mob punching it constantly. This would let their DPS increase in higher-level raid encounters because they wouldn't have to bounce around, while still contributing meaningfully during standard leveling and grinding camps.
