Cleric solo ability with rework

Geldrey

Looking for comments from higher level clerics on this. Has the new rework opened up some potential solo ability? Even if it’s slow I’m wondering if it’s possible.

I originally wasn’t looking at cleric because I want to play a healer that can also solo since I have sporadic play times. But now with the rework it seems they could put out some dps?

Thanks in advance for any comments!

other clerics have said they can solo at the high levels now. i think cleric popularity is going to explode because they're now one of the best solo classes.

personally, i'm not a fan. did not make a cleric to solo, and they've reduced our effectiveness in groups with the rework.

Shaxx

If Clerics can solo effectively now im gonna consider rolling one!

Joel

What does it look like soloing on a cleric? Just the high ac, shields and smack things?

Geldrey

I imagine face tanking with barrier up hitting holy strike and casting your dps spell to nuke down mobs. Probably gonna be slow due to the med time in between but as long as it's possible i will be happy.

Ferret

If you don't nuke but to pull, the cleric self-buff's mana regen does a lot of work. While you may be slow, occasional multi-procs off Holy Strike and the occasional smites from on high help a lot.

Ensi

As a 45 CLR, I think it is only feasible to solo undead for any real exp/hr situation. But it is nice to have the ability to occasionally fight off a light blue or blue non undead - though not super efficient.

Clerics still shine as a premiere group healer with the ability to offer dps for undead encounters.

The miracle smites (wrath/piety) are not predictable and though fun and magical feeling, cannot be relied upon.

Arne

Not great without the piety proc. Will run oom

I had a 30 minute session last night to finish the last little bit toward level 9 and I got two Piety procs and a Wrath proc in that interval. Soloing feels pretty awesome under those conditions!

All you have to do is believe.

Memegor

Graves Sorry to say, but one proc every 10 minutes is absolutely horrendous. That's casting Holy Strike, the moment it's off it's CD, sixty times within a span of 10 minutes, just for one proc.

Obviously, we do not know the Niche Worlds Cult plans to do with this proc-based system for Cleric (if they even further expand on it at all, that is), but, if we will be forced to stick with just using Holy Strike to proc Piety or Wrath, then what I feel like it should be, is at the very least, an average of one proc every 1 - 2 minutes, with worst case scenario being one proc every 3 - 5 minutes.

Geldrey

It feels like when the did the patch that lowered the circle healing mana costs they lowered the piety and wrath procs too. I started cleric when the rework came out and it was a lot more plentiful prior to the patch

Waffle_Goblin

Ensi The "miracle smite" thing is something I tell people a lot when they comment on how hard they hit for. Not only are these random and unreliable, a lot of them do more damage than the mob has HP remaining (when the mob is almost dead when the proc hits).

CalBearGuy

Memegor Wizards have Invocation, a spell which recovers roughly 25% of their mana. It’s on a 5 minute CD.

With that in mind, I find it peculiar that someone would argue it’s “horrendous” that the worst case scenario of their proc should be 40% faster CD than that of a Wizard - or based on your recommended proc rate - to be 5x faster than their spell.

Hackman

I think in essence the proc is great. Devs said balancing revamped classes against environment and finally against one another happens later.

Based on track record, I think it plausible to assume the proc rate would be massaged to ensure cleric can sustain while fulfilling role of frontline healer. I expect we will be viable at both providing some dps/cc while healing the group. This maybe offsets our lack of buff utility.

Memegor

CalBearGuy Which is why I included an alternative of "worst case scenario being one proc every 3 - 5 minutes".

If they were to do one proc every 1 - 2 minutes, then I would have no issue with the effects that both procs offer, being reduced to compensate for the increased uptime. But, as of now, I still stand by my statement that one proc every 10 minutes, is in no way shape or form, good.

CalBearGuy

[unknown] just to reiterate your focal point of a suggestion: a Cleric should be able to recover their mana faster than a Wizard, via an innate and free proc over 30 seconds, while a Wizards casts a spell and channels for 5 seconds…and the “worst case scenario” of that happening is at LEAST equal in CD time of the Wizard spell, but preferably 40% reduction to it. And we think that a chance on that kind of mana regeneration feels bad - specifically for a Cleric, but not a Wizard - for what reason?

Graves

Memegor

I am perfectly fine with the scenario you describe. We'll have to agree to disagree!

I'm not going to fuss if I get buffed, mind you, but I'm really invested in keeping the random and uncontrolled nature of it. It creates whimsy.

Hackman

[unknown] dont bring cleric down with you

Hackman

CalBearGuy dont bring cleric down with you

Memegor

CalBearGuy When have I mentioned that Piety HAS to be stronger than Evocaction? If Wizards are casting a 5 second channeled ability to recover mana, then I would expect that to be much more powerful than a free buff, via a Cleric ability, that Clerics receive to regenerate mana.

The issues I have with this system are:

The only way to receive a proc, at this moment, is through a melee ability, when I personally play Cleric to be a healing / support class, not a divine knight of faith who must almost always be on the front-lines. If I wanted to do that, I would go play Paladin instead.
The uptime average is too low at the moment (this also ties into having only one way of activating the proc). As I said before, I have no issue with having the stats of the effects being reduced to compensate for an increased uptime. They could also have Holy Strike cost mana or increase it's cooldown, for example, if they do happen to add another avenue for us to activate the procs.
