You should pick a shaman if you want to play with the power level of the players and monsters through their buff and debuff lines. They are a support that helps their party members overcome challenges that would not be possible without their aid.

I'm not sure the term "class designer" ever fit Nick. His idea of "design" was copy pasting abilities from other games, 99% EQ.

Mechanically, I can agree that removing the "free" DPS the dog provided without compensating for it elsewhere was a bad move. Shaman being the only healer who must spend mana in order to contribute some DPS to a group is something NWC should correct.

Some changes have worked out, others haven't and need further tuning but moving away from being a straight EQ clone is a good thing overall IMO. People who want to play EQ can play EQ.

That's the exact opposite of good class design. You're literally demanding NWC make shaman more like other priests "just because". No one invites a shaman to a group to DPS, nor will the lack of group DPS hinder them from getting group invites. And I've been in countless groups with clerics who did exactly zero damage the entire night. Cleric damage is for mind-numbingly boring easy content for which their heals aren't much needed. Content that hopefully devs will remove entirely, once the challenge factor is upped.
