Kirrund sounds like un-intentional TTK crap. just like TTK modifications ruined Harm Touch for shadow knights, it likely ruined Damage shields.. they just increased TTK and mob pools hugely and did not account for other scaling vectors for many abilities thoughout the game. Fire pet was never really a "Group" pet in eq, and im fine with it being a solo pet that focus on destruction of light blues and low dark blues, but the scaling is clearly busted, likely TTK/change related. You can't just double/triple mobs HP pool and leave other abilities completely unchanged, it works for some, but not others. Harm Touch was a great example of going from chunking down a dark blue con 30%, to barely taking off 2%. Damage shields and Harm touch are two clear examples, but there are others, im sure. Good news is, it's an easy fix, if the dev's agree.
With regard to Necro vs Ele.. similiar arguments where made in EQ. Yet it was not all doom and gloom, EQ mages where still more effcient at destroying low blue cons the Necros ever where. While necros where more potent with taking down harder targets. EQ mages where more potent for taking down summoner mobs, and more potent in Tight quarters, necros had more versatility FD is huge. It was give and take, necros where not flatly better, all the time, at everything. Both classes where potent in different ways. It just meant a necro was pulling yellow and red cons in planes of power, and a mage was annihilating light blues, xp/hour was not so different.
Furthermore there where plenty of cases where a necro up against 2 targets would need to FD and lose their pet, then wake back up, re-summon and try again, while a mage earth pet might have just straight up tanked the 2 while mage bursted one down fast and been able to complete the encounter. Stuff like this happened all the time.
You had to leverage efficiency, one way that was done for me, was fighting multiple light blue targets, pull one sick pet, go get another one, bring back to pet, swap targets to new one, go get a 3rd, swap targets, but the time you get back pet has sufficient aggro on all 3 targets, release the AOE rains.
Fire pets had a empowerment type of effect that gave them a straight - massive mitigation boost, turning their tiny HP pool into something quite formidable combined with their huge damage shield.
I've made it' pretty clear that i don't much care for the TTK changes. It feels like a bandaid to fix broken shit like Debuffs and Dots, the answer was wrong from the start, find a different solution to those problems. Can't wait to raid where you have to clear mountains of trash mobs, the way the game is now the raid will look like 3 hours of clearing trash for a 10 minute boss fight. Think Ssraeshza Temple / Vex thal
Mages ebbed and flowed throughout the various expansions, at times they where fucking terrible, but usually that was shared with other classes. Anguish was kind to no caster. (MeleeQuest Era)
